Inclusion Powell River (formerly known as PRACL) has received a contract through the United Way of the Lower Mainland to set up a program for seniors in Powell River and the surrounding region. This program called Powell River Better at Home provides services that help seniors continue living independently in their own homes.
Better at Home services vary from community to community. They are designed to complement existing services and are based on the unique needs of local seniors.
Powell River will be starting with a focus on friendly visiting and transportation. These needs were the priority identified in a study done of the area. We hope to grow the program to include all of the following services:
Friendly visiting
Transportation
Grocery Shopping
Light housekeeping
Minor yard work
Minor home repairs
Volunteers and paid staff from Inclusion Powell River will provide Better at Home services. The services are non-medical and are designed to complement existing support services. There is no cost for some services – others are provided on a sliding scale according to income. The Better at Home Program can assist seniors to remain in their homes – supporting diverse, inclusive and vibrant neighbourhoods for everyone.
