Verna has been through a very turbulent life; she was fighting to come out of an abusive relationship while she was living in the Caribbean and relocated to the UK. This is where she had to rebuild herself and her life. The experience that Verna went through didn’t bring her down, but rather she saw this as a reference point to give back and to help people who have been down a similar path.
