Our mission is to provide affordable, high quality acupuncture to the Powell River community. We do this by offering individualized treatments in a quiet, open setting and asking you to decide what you can afford on a sliding scale.
Why would I want to have an acupuncture treatment?
Here are a few responses to a question that may have hundreds of  answersâ¦
- to help you relax
- to help alleviate physical pain
- to help you avoid illness/injury
- to help you feel more energized
- to help you think more clearly
- to help calm your mind (especially around bedtime)
- to help with digestive issues including GERD and IBS
- to help with discomforts during pregnancy
- to use alongside many conventional therapies/medications for the purpose of augmenting their effect and lowering doses
Acupuncture is most well known for quickly and thoroughly relieving acute or chronic painful conditions that other modalities have failed to effect. Many people use acupuncture to manage the symptoms of chronic illness that may not completely abate, but are brought within the level of tolerance. One advantage in this situation is that acupuncture can help reduce the dosage of medications, as well as reduce some of their side effects.
In 1979, the World Health Organization published a short list of conditions seen as appropriate for treatment with acupuncture. This is not a complete list of conditions appropriate for treatment, but just some examples.
The list includes:
- musculoskeletal conditions (such as arthritis, neck/shoulder pain, sciatica and tennis elbow)
- neurological disorders (such as peripheral neuropathy, neuralgia, paralysis, migraine, meniereâs syndrome and shingles)
- emotional and psychological disorders (such as stress, insomnia, depression and anxiety)
- circulatory disorders (such as hypertension, angina pectoris, arteriosclerosis and anemia)
- addictions to alcohol, nicotine and other drugs
- respiratory disorders (such as emphysema, sinusitis, allergies, asthma and bronchitis)
- gastrointestinal conditions (such as food allergies, ulcers, chronic diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, intestinal weakness, anorexia and gastritis)
- reproductive and gynecological conditions (such as PMS, menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms, pregnancy support, morning sickness, labour induction, impotence, infertility, and prostate conditions.)
